maldon  > Family > White's Road house
This is a first look our house at Ohoka, a semi-rural community about 20 minutes north of Christchurch. It's more than six acres in area (2.5 ha). There are 98 rose trees. I bought six new ones to take us through the hundred!

maldon > Our bedroom is at the right hand of the house. The hanging wisteria vines are really something else in the summertime, I am told.
maldon > This is the view from our bedroom corner. The gardens on this side of the house are truly spectacular. Someone asked me whether the gardens would be a burden and I said "no, it's only a phone call." That is not strictly true -- roses have always been a hobby. At the rear of the photograph is a macrocarpa hedge. These run all the way around the property, making it truly private
maldon > More of the macrocarpa hedges. The dead-looking trees behind the hedges are poplars which have lost all their leaves for winter. They are on our property, but the green pine trees behind them belong to our neighbour.
maldon > The left-hand horse paddock. In this photo, we have our back to the house.
maldon > The next picture along showing the stables. the water tank is fed from about 20 m underground by a 6 inch well. The water is cold and sweet and mixes wonderfully with a good single malt. All the water from underground is tested every six months for impurities and ours has zero contaminants,
maldon > The view out through the living room doors, past the outdoor living area towards the "English-garden" side of the house.
maldon > Immediately to the right of the last picture is the kitchen. This is the view that Karen has of the gardens. The driveway is in the distance, running from left to right and around the to the "front" of the house.
maldon > This is my view from the barbecue out towards the fountain. That's the driveway once again in the distance -- it curves around to the "front" of the house. Behind those winterised populars on the right-hand side of the picture is the main horse paddock.
